Snap awake

Hi,

What could I use instead of ‘snap awake’ when I want to say that I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night?

Would ‘jolt awake’ work?

Thank you.

Ann225 Would ‘jolt awake’ work? It seems to me that a jolt would be external. You don't jolt awake.

Well, you could say that you suddenly woke up in the middle of the night, of course. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Personally, neither 'snap' nor 'jolt' sounds great to my ear.
