What does 'smoting offense' mean? I've just heard it in a movie but no dictionary seems to dispel my doubts.

Well, it was what I heard and it coincided with subtitles. The movie was 'Rat race' from 2001 and the context regarded to stealing gas from other car which the man considered a sin whereas the woman said something like 'relax, we're just siphoning some gas, it's not a smoting offense'.
