Smiling lightly or slightly

Hi,
I'd like to know which one is correct:

He was smiling slightly.
or
He was smiling lightly.

Personally, I think "slightly" for smile is kind of unusuaal.
Perhaps, a gentle or a soft smile...

He was smiling lightly.The first isn't too bad. The second seems wrong.

It seems to me that it's usually "(to have) a faint smile" or "to smile faintly".
