Vocabulary

'smell' (noun)

Hi everybody,

Can you use 'smell' (noun) in this way?

'Its smell is like apple'

For me, it doesn't seem the best because 'apple' is not a smell.

The following one seems much better:

'It has the smell of an apple.'

Here I guess that 'of' indicates that we talk about the smell of an apple and not just about apple.

Thanks for your answer(s) in advance.
