The smartphone is not big and can be carried easily anywhere. Therefore, most people today have a smartphone. But are they essential for modern life? I think there are both advantages and disadvantages.

The first advantage of a smartphone is that it provides to communicate with other people easier in different ways around the world such as making calls, text messages, video calls, etc. Secondly, the smartphone is a mini-computer and time-saving device. So, everything is done online within seconds - doing some tasks together like online shopping, sending email, taking pictures, paying bills, learning every subject on the internet through many good websites, podcasts, videos, numerous different apps, and so on. Thirdly, any information can be sent to and got from other places in the world. People can find any location in the best way by some apps on smartphones; it is easier to find out the traffic jam locations, and escape the mess, especially in an unknown place. Also, sometimes people need to relax at home or other places. They can watch funny videos, listen to music or podcasts, or play games on smartphones anywhere, and at any time.

On the other hand, there are also the disadvantages of mobile phones. Social media are available on smartphones which may be used for a long time. It is surely dangerous for everyone, especially children. For example, many driving accidents take place because the drivers are using their smartphones while they are driving. Also, people will be busy with their mobile phones even if people meet each other face to face. Being alone instead of participating in the real world is one of the huge negative impacts of using smartphones. Unfortunately, people lose real experiences in their life. It might have bad effects on the health because of long time use such as brain damages, ear diseases, high pressure on the eyes, etc.

To sum up, I think the smartphone is a necessary device for modern life. But it is important to know how the smartphone is used properly. The positive smartphone aspects on society and daily lives are numerous, so we can't forbear from the smartphone in our life.
