Slower or slowwer

Does anyone know of a website that explains when we don't double the consonant even though the second last letter is a vowel? I would like to know which letters do and don't get doubled. Thanks.

Here is a site that gives the simple rules. However, there are exceptions! Slow does not follow the C-V-C pattern, because the "ow" is considered a vowel.

a, e, i, o, u, w, and y at the end of words are not doubled when adding endings.

Note also

x is not doubled.

v is not doubled.
h is not doubled.
j is not doubled.
q is not doubled.

c is not doubled. It becomes ck instead. (picnic - picnicked
