Sloping out

Hi,

Is anybody know the meaning the word "Sloping out"? I did search on google too, but couldn't find any answer. Would be great if someone tells me its meaning.

Thanks in advance.

If you're standing on an elevated piece of land, you could use "sloping out" to describe the terrain which gradually spread out like a fan below you, leading at a regular, moderate degree of slope, toward a lower plain, or lower elevation. Or something like that!

Hi

Could it possibly be 'slopping out' - undertaken by prisoners?

I have only ever heard this to mean sneaking out, trying to leave without being noticed.

'Sloping out' might be used where there is a room or building: "This lecture is boring, I'll just slope out."

Out in the open, it is more usual to say 'slope off': "I think I'll slope off now, I have homework to do."

You must at least have a sentence or a phrase or some sort of an idea about the kind of people who might use this expression.

Thanks in advance for the context.

Hi,

I agree with Patrick, ie it sounds like British slang. I haven't heard this from N. Americans.
