slippers or sandals

Slippers are the shoes which are light and easy to wear on and off. Flip-flops are also slippers. The first link under the header sandal is definitely a sandal but I don't have any clue about other clues. Should they called be sandal, slippers, or what?

In the US, slippers are what you wear around the house, particularly in the winter, so your feet don't get cold. I might wear my slippers as far as the mailbox, but not further. Flip-flops (or "thongs" to some) are rubber shoes with a post that goes between your big toe and the others, and straps that run from that post to the sides.
