Is my sentence correct?

Leaves have waxy coatings which allow them to slide off water from their leaves.

What is "them"? It is "leaves", of course. So you have said,

Leaves have waxy coatings, and the waxy coatings allow the leaves to slide off water from their leaves.

That sounds like the leaves have leaves, too.
