"slicing licks" (as in guitars) ?

Hi all,
Could someone explain what exactly "slicing licks" mean in music terms? I've come across with this phrase used in describing the guitar licks in songs. I've listened to various pieces of music with this description, and have got a vague impressesion that it is a kind of licks that cut through music, but am not sure at all about this. Or does it have something you do with guitars (to "slice") ?

It'd be great if someone in the know could enlighten me!
