Sleighing song

Hi!

Please I need help!!! I understood what sleigh means, but I can't understand what a sleighing song means (I took it from the Christmas song "Jingle Bells") Anoter question : In "Bells on bobtail ring" (from the same song), Can I understand bobtail as a synonymous for "reindeer"?

Thanks,

Gil

Bobtail is probably the name of the horse pulling the sleigh, or reflects the fact that horses in the 19th century were docked (the tail dock was cut off) - most of the lyrics as given on the internet are inconsistent but whatever, it is clear the sleigh is pulled by a horse, not a reindeer.

.
There is also a mention of a "bobtailed bay" in the lyrics and that would be a reddish-brown horse with a short (cut short) tail.
