SLAUGHTERING

I had been to chicken shop only once in my whole life time/until now. As I could not stand their cry when they were getting slaughtered.

It was only once I had been to buy chicken till day and had decided never will again . As I could not bear them crying when they were getting slaughtered.

Please help me to phrase the above sentences. Replacing new words are acceptable.
