Slang meaning of "fit": pondial?
Scene: this evening in the pub; about half a dozen people, chatting about nothing in particular.
Comment was made about the young (early teenage) daughter of one of them and 3 or 4 of her friends, who were running about on the playing fields opposite the pub wearing themselves out. They could be seen through the window, and someone remarked that although they'd run the perimeter about three times, they'd now paused for a break.
The mother of one of the younger girls said "so they're not as fit as they claim to be, then". Well-meaning middle-aged guy (not me honest) defended said youngsters, saying "well, the two older ones are fit enough" (intending to finish with "they've just started running again").
At "the two older ones are fit enough", the entire group collapsed with loud guffaws. (As they would in these here parts.)
Has that use of "fit" travelled to Leftpondia?
