Sky Train and Subway

Hello,

In our city, we have both sky train and subway. I wonder, if I don't want to spcify it, is there a common word can be used to call both of them.

Thanks.

I think that trains may also refer to trains runing between cities. I don't want to include this type of train.

Thank you for your help.

Or you could say "public transportation," but that would also include buses (assuming your city has buses.) "I don't have a car -- could you tell me how to get to your house using public transportation?"

You could specify "urban / local trains". Some cities also differentiate between "subways" and "els" (elevated trains).

They are both part of the rail transit system.

The Sky Train is often classed as Light Rapid Transit (LRT) and sometimes referred to as a 'People Mover'.

Subway is not considered 'Light'.
