Skive off, play truant
Hi,
I know that I can use ‘skip a class’, but I was wondering if ‘skive off’ would work as well.
“Most of the new students skive off classes every chance they get.”
What about ‘play truant’? Is it only used in formal settings?

Certainly in British English we use 'skive off' regularly. 'Play truant' is also used, but tends to be a bit more formal or old-fashioned.

In British English the red part is not needed. Bunk off is the general way of putting it.
