Vocabulary

skills

Hi,

I have a sentence below and hope you would answer some questions.

Work on your small-talk skills before sitting around table.

Here, why has to be 'small-talk skills' and not 'a small-talk skill'? Does making or doing small talks requires one to have more than one skill?

Here, what does 'before' imply? Does that imply 'sitting before' (or beside) physically or does that imply that small-talking has to precede the action of sitting around a table?
