Skid through, down

Harbhajan to Morkel, out Lbw!! India have won! Harbhajan has done it for India! It was a flat delivery, pitched on middle and leg and skid through, Morkel played down the wrong line and was struck in front! An excellent effort from Morkel nevertheless but spare a thought for Amla who's batted out of his skin to get SA close to saving this game!

Could you please explain to me the emboldened parts?

"skid through" = didn't bounce very high. (It should be "skidded through", but even then the sentence wouldn't be exactly right. Quite a few of the items that you post are not perfectly correct English.)

"played down the wrong line" = misjudged the trajectory of the ball (the "line") and went to play the ball in the wrong place. "down" itself means something like "along".
