Sizes And Clothes

Hello everyone,

1.a. Are the sentences below natural?

This T-shirt is size medium and Jack is size XL. It is too small for him.

Or "It's not big enough for him."

b. These pants are size 38 and I'm size 34. They are too big for me. (Here by "38", I mean the waistband of the pants)

2. Is it natural to use "big" and "small" for clothes as above? Or should "large" and "small" be used?

Top answer

a. This T-shirt is size medium and Jack is size XL. " In the US, I'd say "too small for" is usual, but "not big enough for" is perfectly possible in the right context.
