Situationally restrictive; thus article "the" necessary?

Hi. Are definite articles ("THEs") needed here? Could they be optional?The number 1 sentence is about the Boston Tea Party.

1. She decided not to drink any tea. That way, she could boycott the British tea.

2. The destruction of the Babylonian Empire by the Medes and Persians is foretold.
