Sit with unhealed pain?

Hello everybody.

I explained how we all carry unhealed pain, which can and will be ignited at any time. As therapists, we must help our
patients learn to sit with their pain, and our own capacity to sit with pain can further help our patients. While we are wired to run from pain and sitting with it feels counterintuitive, being present with our pain and knowing how to manage it are the behaviors we need to model. This is an important resource for all of us, as therapists, patients, and parents.

I don't know exactly what sitting with unhealed pain mean.

Does it mean to confront?

And I don't know what ' this' refers to.

I really appreciate you for your help.
