Sit up at the desk?

Hello everybody.
I'm reading Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.

He would’ve fall-en right off his desk! How weird it is to sit up at the desk and talk down to the employee from way up there...then I'll make a big break.

Would you please tell me what the bold part means?

Does it mean sitting on the desk?

In the following, the narrator explains in the future he will gather enough money to pay off the debt and he will make a big break. What does make a big break mean?

Thanks ??

Jamal 1315 Would you please tell me what the bold part means? That is not perhaps the best translation. " The boss has an unusually tall desk and chair, and the narrator knows it well.

  • Employees that go to his office have to look up at him.
  • "Sit up at the desk" was not immediately understandable for me—I read "sit up" to mean to adjust his sitting posture to become more erect.

That is not perhaps the best translation. I found one that has it "How weird it is to sit up at that desk and talk down to the employee from way up there." The boss has an unusually tall desk and chair, and the narrator knows it well. Employees that go to his office have to look up at him.
