Sit or sit down

Hello everyone. I have a question.

Do the following two sentences sound natural? Please evaluate each of them:

(A) Mary has already drunk two cups of tea since I sat down here.

(B) Mary has already drunk two cups of tea since I sat here.

I suspect that "already" is redundant there and "sit down" as in the first sentence means probably sitting on the ground and for the latter sentence, you might be thinking of a property/office to wait for something or just rest.
