Sit idle, beam onto

Hi,

"I had time to send her a quick message when I sat idle at a red light / the traffic lights."

"During the festival of lights, people get to see scenes of various colours beamed onto the buildings." (I'd probably use 'projected onto' but I'm curious about the use of 'beam' in this case.

Are both of these sentences natural and grammatical?

Thank you.
