Sins of the fathers.....

Which of the following proverbs/sayings is grammatically correct or do you have a better way to say this?

1) Sins of the fathers shall be visited upon his children.
2) The faults of the fathers falls on the children.

  • This saying exists in various similar forms.
  • The traditional proverb usually refers to "son(s)" rather than "children", but "children" would be more PC now I suppose.
