singular/plural

- A lucky minority lead / leads a life of Heaven here in this world.

- A majority live / lives below the poverty line.

Should we use singular or plural? and are the sentences correct?

Thanks in advance.

If you consider these collective nouns, then it depends on whether the individuals are acting as a group or as individuals. Majority is a collective group acting as one. Therefore, treat them as singular.

  • Marjority is singular and marjorities is plural.
  • Maybe that's easier.

Marjority is singular and marjorities is plural. Maybe that's easier.

Correction!

I think I need to proofrad my posts. I meant majority, not marjority. Also, treat IT (the word majority) as singular, not treat THEM (the individuals) as singular. Sorry.
