Singular Plural verbs

IF India's cricket team wins a match. the correct headline would be?
I have seen both written in two different leading newspapers

1)India wins the match.
2)India win the match.

Logically, I find first one better.
Any suggestions?

"India wins the match" is the correct form in British and American Standard English. Sometimes there may be local traditions of using the plural for the team name. Do you think of "India" as the name of the team?
