In my opinion, (2) is more logical and better style. In practice, you also see people using (1). Those people presumably do not see anything wrong with it.

When it comes to countable nouns you can use both the sentences they are both correct.

"Different types of responses" and "Different types of response" both are correct.


But when it's an uncountable noun you can only use the singular form.

"Different types of coffee" and not "Different types of coffees"
