Singular or plural: [a waste of skill(s) and ability (abilities)]

I have made up the sentences below.

(1) You're highly skilled in accounting. I don't understand why you want to switch to a low-pay job you know nothing about. It's a waste of skill and ability.

(2) You're highly skilled in accounting. I don't understand why you want to switch to a low-pay job you know nothing about. It's a waste of skills and abilities.
