Singular or plural

Hello Friends,

I thought it was Jim and Mike.

Is the above correct? I am assuming even though there are two people, Mike and Jim, we need to use 'was' instead of 'were'?

Thank you in advance.

If it were a weekday, there would be fewer people in line. (Today is Saturday and the line is long.)
