I thought it was Jim and Mike.
Is the above correct? I am assuming even though there are two people, Mike and Jim, we need to use 'was' instead of 'were'?

The subject is "it". It is singular. The only combination "it were" is for the subjunctive.
e.g.
If it were a weekday, there would be fewer people in line. (Today is Saturday and the line is long.)
