Singular or plural

Which is more natural, or correct?

Ten years "have" or "has" passed since he died.

I see "have" more often. But if we see "ten years" as one, like

"Ten years is very long for me." I think considering "ten years" as singular noun is more natural.

Thank you in advance.

Hello, masaki - and welcome to English Forums. Both are correct and natural; the choice, as you observe, is a result of how the speaker envisions it - as one period or as ten units.
