If I wanted to use in this way and not the way you've given:

There is/are more than one way to go about doing it.

Should I use 'are'?

Should I use 'are'? Only "is" is correct in this case. (singular subject)

It depends how you use it.

More than one are required to make it work. (plural subject)

There are several ways to skin a cat. (Sorry, GG.)

How about "There is another way to do it."? That makes two ways, right? (singular subject)
