Singular or Plural?

Hi.

I have a question about the sentence below.

"These numbers are distinguished from each other by adding different alphabet letters."



One alphabet letter is added for each number.

Should "letters" in the sentence be singular?

Or, since "numbers" is plural, should "letters" be also plural?
