singular or plural?

Mt. Fuji sits at the border between Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures.
I think "prefecture" should be singular in this sentence. Am I correct?

Top answer

Well, if Shizuoka and Yamanashi share the same prefecture, then you're correct. If you're talking about two different prefectures, then use the plural.

I'm in total agreement with Pieanne (as usual). P.S. Bruges was wonderful!
