singular or plural?

If I want to say a difference between the work of two people, doctors and tour guides for example, which way is best to say it?

The natures of their works were different.
The nature of their works were different.
The nature of their work was different.

First, the verb must agree with the singular or plural form of nature. If you want to say "jobs," then you can use the plural, but "work" will always be in the singular (for this type of usage - "works" can be plural in other contexts). So the combination of natures...is or nature... are would be incorrect.

To me, what sounds the most natural is "The nature of their work is
