Since/during the last 300 years

What is the correct replacement of bold part?

#1 A great deal of human invention since the last 300 years has been directed to taming the power hidden in nature, and to channeling it into steady sources of energy that can drive machines.

(A) since the past 300 years

(B) in the last 300 years

(C) during the past 300 years (answer given in answer sheet)

(D) No improvement

For me, "since the past 300 years", "in the last 300 years" and "during the past 300 years" all are correct here. Here its talking about time period of last 300 years, so all three phrases denote this time period.

Thank you

B and C are both possible but C is better. 'During' suggests the human invention was spread easily throughout the 300 years. With 'since', you need to refer to a starting point in the past.

"since" is wrong, whether with "past" or "last". "since" requires a specific time, e.g. "since 1700".

(B) and (C) are both correct.
