Since vs As? Can you please help?

I always make myself confused with the use of "since" and "as".

Are they interchangeable in the following sentence?

1. I didn't feel sleepy as I slept for a while when I entered home
2. I didn't feel sleepy since I slept for a while when I entered home

1. I am replying to your email since John is on vacation
2. I am replying to your email as John is on vacation

Thanks a lot!
