since + past perefect

Hello All,

"I started collecting stickers, since I was four years old"
Can we use 'since' with 'simple past'?!

I want to mention the period of time ( 4,5 years) that lasted in the past.
Is the following correct?!
"I had been collecting stickers for 5 years when/since I was four years old"
