Since how many days? or For how many days?

Hi

When a patient complains that he's been ill and is suffering from a fever etc.. and the doctor wants to know the duration since the symptoms first started, what is the most natural way of asking it?

Since how many days?

or For how many days?

Please help.

Thank you

Possible. A doctor will usually say something clearer, like "When did you first notice your symptoms?" or" How long have you been feeling unwell?"
