since and so

Since my friend know car driving, so he agreed to join the slow ride race.

What happens if I remove "so" off the sentence? will the meaning of the sentence change?

Since he is a perfect chess player, he happily accepted his request to take part in the contest

If we write sentences like above we need to use "so" ?

Don''t use 'since' and 'so' together like this. Say eg Since it rained, I got wet. eg It rained, so I got wet.
