Question

Did anyone else catch James Lipton's interview with the Simpsons (voice) cast on Bravo's "Inside the Actors Studio"? Fantastic, but why did Julie Kavner disappear in the middle?

I caught part of it before turning in last night, and I'm hoping the same one was repeated this morning because I set the VCR to tape it..

I find it interesting that Kavner and Yeardley Smith always sound like their characters, while the others throw some internal switch to put on the appropriate voices..r

Nancy Cartwright ("Bart" and others) blew my mind. This woman was sitting there and all of a sudden a completely different voice would burst out. She seems to enjoy her job immensely.
Castellana was impressive, Azaria seemed bored, Smith didn't get much face time, and Kavner disappeared right in the middle of the show.

If you find out when it runs again, let me know. I want to tape it for my son.

I've had occasion to mention Harry Shearer to people who haven't seen "Spinal Tap"...since the death of Phil Hartman, the thing that clicks with the greatest number seems to be "he's nearly all the voices on 'The Simpsons' that aren't done by Hank Azaria"..
(I'm not sure whether it shows restraint or lack of imagination, but they could have marked Hartman's passing with a bizarre variation on the way most sitcoms take note of the abrupt death of one of their stars: by killing off every character he played in a massive bloodbath)..

One of the questions asked to each actor was how many voices they did on the show. They all seemed to average about 10 regular or semi-regular.

James Lipton is a bit of a priss, but I have to give him credit for (a) being prepared with good questions, and (b) letting the interviewee be the focus of attention. I like it when he lets the audience ask questions, and someone stands up and introduces himself as a "first-year playwright".
Have you noticed that the show is "Inside the Actors Studio"? No apostrophe.

I think "BRAVOP" is the Pacific-coast feed of Bravo...the east coast feed would differ by three hours...(my mother across town has a different cable company, and all the listings in the newspaper for the TNT channel are off by that increment)...further, the listings I gave (via Excite) are adjusted to the Phoenix time zone, and 1:00 AM Monday actually means sixty-one minutes after 11:59 PM Sunday night..r

I went as far as I could with the guide function of my cable provider. In this area, "Jaws" was repeated all night. I'm on "Brighthouse", so I guess it's a cable thing.
