Simple to compound

Hello,

1.He must work hard to make up for the lost time.

The above sentence is a simple sentence ,and I would like to change it into a compound sentence.

1A. He work hard and make up the lost time. ( I think it is not a compound sentence.)
1B. He must work hard in order to make up for the lost time.

Please suggest how to convert the (1) into a compound sentence.

Thanks.

A compound sentence has two subject verb relationships -- specifically, two independent clauses. He must work hard; he must do that in order to make up for lost time.
