I'm not a native English but I think the meaning of my sentence is not exactly what you said. It should say something like that "place the backstop in a location that will be safe and doesn't fail".
The problem is here is that I know the meaning of term "should" but here that term has not that meaning which I knew!

I'd like to help, but I don't know what kind of backstop it is, and you have said two different things. I picture a net on a frame meant to stop ***** that get by a person, but I don't know what kind of ball. I also don't know how you could place it anywhere but where it would stop the ***** and what is supposed to be kept safe.
