Simple present for text analysis?

when I analyze a letter, do I have to stick to the simple present the whole time? or could I also use the present progressive?

1) she doesn't use any linking words in her letter.
2) she isn't using any linking words in her letter.

are both versions correct?

The letter was written and sent to you by her. So for #1, you need to say " she didn't use any linking words....". # 2 is present pro

The simple present sounds better to me for this exercise.
