simple present FOR present perfect?

Hi,

Consider the following micro-monologue:

Oh dear! I've forgotten his name! (= I can't remember it now)

Will the original meaning change if I use the simple present for the present perfect?

Oh dear! I forget his name!

Thank you for your reply!

MUSCOVITE the original meaning change if I use the simple present for the present perfect? No, it will not change. There's also a third option "I forgot his name", which also means the same thing in the right context.

  • Of course, the present perfect version is the best and least ambiguous of the three options, so I'd stick with that.
