Simple past vs present perfect

He HAS WRITTEN ten letters before breakfast.

He wrote ten letters before breakfast.


Which one is correct ? Only first sentence or both are correct

"before breakfast" indicates the time the letters were written. You can't say when the action took place in a sentence in the present perfect.
