Simple Past / Present perfect with this?

Hi there,

I would like to know for a zero conditional sentence like the particular example below, whether I should use the simple past or the present perfect.

If a direct traffic interacts with the site content within the 30 minute session window, the existing session carries on where it left/has left off.

Thanks.
