Essay & Composition Writing

Simple past / present perfect

I'm answering an essay question about why I picked a particular film. Should I say:

I have chosen this film because of X, Y, and Z.

or

I chose this film because of X, Y, and Z.

Can you explain which choice is better and why?

Thank you!
