simple past or the past perfect tense

In the sentence below, please tell me if I should have used a simple past as opposed to using the past perfect tense.

You wouldn't be on his side if you knew what he had done to me?

Thank you in advance for your help.

You could use either. Use the simple past if it was one event. If it was an ongoing abuse you might consider the past imperfect, "You wouldn't be on his side if you knew what he used to do to me".

  • By the way why is there a question mark?
