Simple past

Hello,

1. I didn't see her this week.

I wonder whether we could use 'this week' a time expression for the simple past tense.

2. I didn't see her earlier this week.

The time expression 'earlier this week' does indicate the past time.

Thanks.

We'd normally say 'I haven't seen her this week' in brE. However, if the prospect of seeing her is past, then the past simple is possible. For example, if I normally see her on Wednesdays, I could say on Friday 'I didn't see her this week'.
