Simple is best

Hello. In Japan, we often say "Simple is best". This means that when we do something, we had better do it in a simple way. I heard the expression "Simple is the best." Which is better? I don't understand why "the" is needed. Or do you have another expression like "The simple is the best."? Thank you.

this "the" is needed for expressions indicating their "uniqueness". when you say "best", the word implies that there would be one and only one thing you are talking about, that is why this "the" is needed.
